Mitchell United Methodist Church and our Vacation Bible School in participating in the following mission project. It is called “Suitcases for Kids/Dignity for Foster Children”. This ministry has been started by a small group from Mount Mitchell. This is a wonderful opportunity to enhance the lives of some innocent children.  Cabarrus County Department of Social Services (DSS) removes an average of 25 children from their homes each month and places them in foster care. When DSS removes children from a home, their belongings are placed in plastic bags because that is all DSS has to offer the child.   How can you help?  You can contribute suitcases or make a donation to purchase suitcases for these children.  A suitcase given to these children will offer some sense of dignity in their fragile lives. The suitcases can be new, as well as gently used; however, they need to be clean and unisex. To find out more about how you can help, contact Kay Cook at 704/932-2466 or chevy57@vnet.net. This worthy cause was designated by the Mission/Outreach team as the July Mission of the Month. If you have already made a contribution to missions for the month of July your donation will go to this cause. The target date for collecting the suitcases and/or monetary donations will be Sunday, August 13th. Please bring your suitcases to the mailroom or place your monetary donation in the offering plate marked “Suitcases for Kids”. Please look for a “tree” placed in the narthex, which will have suitcase tags that the children have decorated during VBS. Please pick one up to serve as a reminder for you to go shopping

Ice Cream Social Today!!

 

Please join us on Today, July 30th at 5:00 PM at the Yost Park for a church wide ice cream social.  Don’t forget to bring your  ice cream maker & your  favorite recipe to share!  Afterwards, stick around to hear the “Share Him Quartet” beginning at 6:00PM.

 Rev. Abraham Kim will be out of the office from Monday, 7/31 – Monday 8/7 .  He will be attending the Annual Cross Racial Convention in Los Angeles, California.  Let us pray for him to have a productive and safe journey. 

 

Sponsor’s & Volunteers are Needed for

Our August 7th Blood Drive!

 

 

Circle groups or individuals can sponsor a Blood Drive by providing money to buy juice & snacks for the donors.

 

This is a great opportunity for high school students to volunteer and get their Community Service Credit.  All they need to do is serve juice & snacks to blood donors.

Gathering of the Laity

 

The 2006 “Gathering of the Laity” will be held August 18-20, 2006 at Lake Junaluska.  “Christ Centered Transformation” is the topic for this 41st annual gathering.  Registration forms are available on the bulletin board outside the church office. Contact Alan Thompson with questions.
