(UNITED METHODIST YOUTH FELLOWSHIP)

Mt. Mitchell United Methodist Church offers the opportunity for children and youth in our church and community to be involved in a variety of learning experiences. In addition to our Sunday morning church school, we have two youth groups which are very active.

The JR UMYF is for children in the second grade or eight years old through seventh grade.

The SR UMYF is for youth in the eighth grade through the twelfth grade.

Those beyond twelfth grade may remain in SR UMYF until 21 if there is no active SEEKERS group. These are general guidelines and any decisions by the Counselors for the betterment of the group and for the benefit of the individual children and youth will be made as needed.

You may join the youth group after attending three meetings

and completing a registration form.

To be an active member* of the UMYF you must:

* Active members connect with each other by participating in group meetings, studying and worshipping together. By helping with fund raisers you help earn money for trips and activities. Those who do not attend meetings and participate in the fund raisers will be expected to pay their own costs for activities and trips.

**JR UMYF Hot Dog Sale is the fourth Wednesday in September.

SR UMYF Hot Dog Sale is the fourth Wednesday in March.

These are major fund raisers for the groups and everyone is expected to participate as fully as possible. Bring at least one homemade dessert and two two-liter drinks (if there is no one to make a homemade dessert for you let the counselors know).

General Guidelines

Respect all members and leaders.

No youth member may leave the premises or ride with another youth without the expressed consent of the parent/guardian to one of the counselors.

UMYF members will adhere to the same dress code as the public school system. (We won’t measure your shorts, but no short-shorts.) Girls must wear one-piece bathing suits at all youth swim trips & retreats or wear a top over a two piece suit.

JR UMYF

We had an exciting year with 22 members. We have each grown spiritually as we have shared our Christianity together through prayers, love, fun and fellowship. As time changes, we each have to make a change to the next step in our lives. So it is with our youth programs. We just recently promoted six of our youth to the next step in our youth program - SR youth. We will miss each of you. We pray you will continue to grow for God has a plan for each of you.

Open to any youth second grade or eight years old. We invite you to join us for many learning experiences as Christ calls us to be and to grow. We meet each Sunday 4 - 5:30 PM - 3rd floor. Our first meeting together will be September 12 at 4. Come try us - you will have a great experience. JR youth will sponsor the September Hot Dog Sale. We expect parents and youth. All other help and donations are appreciated.

We ask for your continued support for both of our youth groups. Pray for the counselors that they will lead our youth in direction to where they should be and need to go.

Welcome to LuAnn Baxter as an official youth counselor. Climb on board for a ride of the time of your life.

Remodeling: We have painted our youth rooms. As soon as we get furniture in place, and things on the wall and complete our remodeling process, we ask that you come by and check our room out. We appreciate all the labor given to beautify our room. God has truly blessed us in so many ways.

First fundraiser : 2005 Chick-Fil-A calendar for only $5. Please see one of our youth or counselors to purchase . Lots of good treats inside. Eat more chicken by purchasing a calendar and supporting your youth.

Thank you Mt. Mitchell church and members for your awesome support over the past year. Through your help we were able to spend an amazing week on our mission trip to Camp Asehi in Virginia. Every time you bought an item, helped with our hot dog sale, had your car washed, or the countless others things that you did with and for us, you helped make to possible for us to share God’s word with others. We were able to give Bibles, to share stories, sing and play with children who have not always had it easy. Some shared the stories of their own tragedies with us and that just made us love them all the more. You made that possible. Praise God for your love.

SpiritUs There were about 900 youth and leaders at Fort Caswell retreat. The speakers challenged the youth to "go against the flow" and follow God’s call in their life. Andy Allen, Susie Carter, Ben Hatley, Cassie Hatley & Logan Horne all attended workshops on Sat. (Andy & Ben were invited to be in the band next year.) Thanks, David Mauldin for driving and for chaperoning the guys.

WELCOME TO: Kristina Beamon, Buddy Carter, Daniel Davis, Patrick Horton, Erica Tucker, and Nicole White from JR UMYF. We also welcome Michelle Dickinson. We have 18 active members. All youth eigth grade and older are welcome to join.

Regular meetings are Sunday at 4:00 PM and include music, bible study, fun and recreation.

First outing: Sun 12th, Cab. County Fair. Youth should bring money to eat. If you would like to help chaperone let me know.

Youth today lead very busy lives. We have some that work and are in college, some that are in marching band and work and high school and some that go visiting during the week (which will start back on Wednesday afternoons in September).

Our group has been challenged to live life on the edge for God. Help us to be a bold witness for Christ. Pray for us...

for all the youth and leaders of our church.

that those gifted to work with youth and young adults will respond

those at college feel welcome returning

that the UMYF groups will be a positive influence on the lives of youth as we strive to share God’s love and to help them grow in wisdom and in spirit.
